Radio-potassium indicator-dilution studies during angiocardiography.

چکیده
In an attempt to learn more about the physiologic changes in the cardiovascular system during angiocardiography and the nature of mixing of radio-opaque dyes with blood, radiopotassium and Diodrast I' dilution curves were obtained before and during angiocardiography. Studies in patients without valvular disease and with mitral valvular disease indicated an increased cardiac output during angiocardiography, but the increases were not statistically greater than those following control injections. No difference in indicator-dilution patterns of potassium and Diodrast was demonstrable, suggesting identical circulatory mixing patterns.

Overestimation of left ventricular volume by the indicator dilution technique.
• Since the work of Bing and co-workers and the subsequent observations of Holt, the indicator dilution technique has been used to measure ventricular volume. The validity of the technique depends upon thorough mixing of indicator with ventricular blood. However, experimental data have been presented by Irisawa et al. and subsequently by Swan and Beck suggesting that requisite mixing does not o...

SUMMARY The flow of blood in vitro and in the carotid artery of the dog was calculated by a new cinedensitometric technique and compared with the flow as measured simultaneously by graduated cylinder and stopwatch. Cineangiographic films were projected onto a frosted screen and the light intensity was measured at two neighboring cross sections of the vessel in question. The passage of the contr...
متن کاملThe freon test. A new sensitive technic for the detection of small cardiac shunts.
0NE of the difficult problems in cardiac catheterization is the identification and localization of small left-to-right shunts. This is particularly trying with small residual shunts following intracardiac surgery. It is recognized that standard oximetry, indicator-dilution curves with injection into the right heart, and right-sided angiocardiography are not sensitive enough to identify small le...
متن کاملFiberoptic-Dye Dilution Method for Measurement of Cardiac Output
A new method for the measurement of cardiac output has been tested in 69 patients undergoing catheterization of the right and left sides of the heart. It is based on the recently described fiberoptic hemoreflection method. In order to verify the validity of these measurements, correlations with stroke indices determined by the Fick principle and by biplane angiocardiography were also carried ou...
